Susie Warner

August 1, 1931 — December 17, 2017

Susie Warner, 86, of Goshen, passed into the arms of her Savior, Sunday evening, December 17, 2017 with her family by her side.

She was born August 1, 1931 in Syracuse to Raymond and Zelma (Hanshew) Lung.

On June 21, 1953 she married Philip T. Warner in Goshen.  He died May 21, 1998.

Susie was a living example of what it means to have a servant’s heart. She lived her life to the fullest as the wife of the late Philip T. Warner on the now 6th generation farm. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and “special friend” to many. Hospitality was a huge part of her life and she opened her home to many. The farm and her family were everything to her, yet she found time in her busy schedule for serving others.

Susie fully supported her husband in his role of State Representative for 28 years. They made an excellent team of public servants. Susie was very involved with the programs designed for the wives during session each spring. She served on many committees and made lots of contacts to assist her in future accomplishments of serving others.

If there was a cause that needed special assistance, everyone knew that Susie Warner could get it done. She spent countless hours serving on boards such as Oaklawn, Juvenile Justice, Elkhart County Mental Health Services, Ivy Tech, The Window, Bridgework Theater, Goldenrod, La Casa and United Way to name a few. Her most recent and closest to her heart was Bashor Children’s Home.

On the farm side, Susie was very active in the Elkhart County Farm Bureau Co-Op and Indiana State Farm Bureau. She was chosen the first Indiana Farm Bureau Wife of the Year in 1978. She hosted many farm tours and spoke at events throughout the state. Of course, she was also involved with Elkhart County 4-H and served on the State Fair Commission.

Susie’s church was also a big part of her life, serving on many boards, committees and many other ways at First United Methodist Church in Goshen. She also served at the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen. Susie was always there with a card, phone call, flowers, or words of encouragement to those who needed uplifting.

Susie was the recipient of The Book of Golden Deeds Award in 2001. In Susie’s words, “I have been richly blessed and feel that whatever small effort I have made will never adequately repay this marvelous community.”

A memorial service, in honor of Susie, will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Bashor Children’s Home.

Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
