Susanne M. Friesen, 79, of Goshen, died Thursday evening, May 22, 2014, at I.U. Health Goshen Hospital. She was born June 21, 1934 to Adolf and Susie (Unrau) Friesen. She is survived by a sister, Helen Fisher, Rochester. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Gene Fisher. Susanne graduated from Goshen High School and earned her master's degree in Library Sciences from Indiana University. A longtime Goshen resident, she worked for more than 55 years at Goshen Public Library, progressively assuming more responsible positions, including cataloger and assistant director. She started working for the library at its original Carnegie building location, now the Goshen mayor's office. Susanne was a treasure trove of local history going back into the 1940's. She had an excellent memory for local lore, where a store used to be or who important figures were. She continued to help people find historical or genealogical information in the Indiana Room up to her last day at work. Friends may call on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, one hour prior to the 10 a.m., funeral service at Eighth Street Mennonite Church. Pastor Brenda Sawatzky Paetkau will officiate. An 11:30 a.m. committal service will follow at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Public Library.
