Sue L. Christner

Sue L. Christner, 91, died at home early Friday morning, November 12, 2010. She was born August 5, 1919, in Topeka to Levi D. and Goldie (O’niel Eash) Christner.  She married Carl Christner on April 25, 1942, in Goshen.  He died April 9, 2005. She is survived by two sons, Steve (Tracey) Christner of Goshen, and Larry (Anita) Christner of Topeka; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother Samuel Christner of Leesburg. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lizzie Ann Miller, Emma Hostetler, Edith Lyon, Goldie L. Christner, and Mary Fereva; and brothers, Menno L., Christian L., Amos L., John Levi, David A., Levi Lee and Arthur L. Christner. A homemaker and lifelong resident of the Topeka/Millersburg area, Mrs. Christner was a longtime member of North Goshen Mennonite Church.  Mrs. Christner sold Dutchmaid clothing from 1967-1972.  In 1975 she started her own quilt business, selling old and new quilts all over the USA.  She has had a number of quilts put into the national quilt registry and her mother’s quilt called “Jonnie Round the Corner” was displayed at the Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis, and appeared on the cover of the Indiana Historical Society Magazine “Traces”.  She loved flowers and plants and had a great interest in genealogy.     Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, November 14, at Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Topeka. A 2:30 p.m., funeral service will be conducted on Monday, November 15, 2010,  at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, Topeka.  Pastor Dean Linsenmeyer of North Goshen Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Town Line Cemetery, Topeka. Memorials may be made to North Goshen Mennonite Church.
