Steven T. Payne, 71, of Middlebury, died unexpectedly, Monday, January 10, 2022 at Goshen Hospital.

He was born May 6, 1950 in Goshen to Leonard and Rosemary (Briggs) Payne. They preceded him in death.

On February 3, 1973 he married Susan Neff in Goshen.

She survives along with three children, Jeff (Tricia) Payne, Jon (Sarah) Payne, both of Middlebury and Jennifer (Todd) Trybus of Germantown, Maryland; and six grandchildren, Ellis, Raegan, Logan, Theo, Jackson and Connor.

Mr. Payne was a U.S. Army veteran, who worked locally for Cintas, as a route salesman and delivery driver. A former member of First Baptist Church, Goshen, he has attended Faith Baptist in Middlebury since moving to the area.

Steven had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed trains, old trucks, and worked with Essenhaus, Inc. to start the classic car Cruise-In and annual model train show.

Visitation will be Monday, January 17, 2022 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.

An 11:30 a.m. funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 18, also at the funeral home. Rev. Rick Donald, Sugar Grove Church will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.
