Dr Stanley C. Shenk

Stanley C. Shenk, 91, of Goshen, died Thursday morning, Sept. 2, 2010, at Greencroft Healthcare where he had been one week. He was born March 30, 1919, in Denbigh, Va., to Coffman and Icie Pearl (Shank) Shenk.  He married Doris Sell June 20, 1942 in Souderton, Penn.  She preceded him Oct. 13, 2004. Dr. Shenk is survived by a daughter, Rhoda (Robert) Keener, Shippensburg, Penn.; three sons, Dave (Shirley) Shenk of Elkhart, and Dan (Vera) Shenk and Phil (Alice) Shenk, both of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Charles (Liz) Shenk, Columbus, Ohio, and Martin (Rosemary) Shenk, Biglerville, Penn. He was a member of Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Goshen. He attended Eastern Mennonite College and graduated from Goshen College in 1944.  He attended Union Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary and Eastern Baptist Seminary and received his PhD in 1972 from New York University.  He taught at Eastern Mennonite College for three years and served as pastor of the South Union Mennonite Church, West Liberty, Ohio from 1949-57.  From 1957-65 the family lived in Souderton, Penn. and he taught at Christopher Dock High School and at Upper Moreland High School near Philadelphia 1963-65.  In 1965 the family moved to Goshen and he taught Old Testament Survey, gospel of John and Jeremiah until 1986.  From 1965 to 75 he served as Associate Pastor at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church.  He led 13 tours of the Holy Land with Goshen College. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5 and one hour prior the service at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church, Goshen. A 1:00 p.m., Monday, Sept. 6, funeral service will be conducted at Clinton Frame Mennonite Church.  Pastors Terry Diener and Jeff Mumaw will officiate. The family and friends will meet at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home at 9 a.m., Tues. to go in procession to Violett Cemetery for burial. Memorials may be given to Mennonite Women USA, Greencroft Foundation or Goshen College.
