Stanley E. Mishler

December 30, 1925 — May 13, 2017

Stanley E. Mishler, 91, of Goshen was welcomed into heaven by his Lord and Savior, Saturday morning, May 13, 2017 at Goshen Hospital.

He will be dearly missed by his family and a host of friends to whom he left a legacy of love and faithful service to his Lord.

Stanley was born December 30, 1925 near Topeka to Howard and Violetta (Yoder) Mishler.  He graduated from Shipshewana High School in 1944.

On April 6, 1947 he married Norma F. Yoder at Forks Mennonite Church, Middlebury.  They celebrated 66 years of marriage before her death in 2013.

He is survived by a son, Michael (Rhonda) Mishler of Rockwall, Texas; daughters, Ulonda (Winford) Jones of LaGrange, Jan (Dale) Schrock of Goshen, and Nellie (Byron) Mishler Hooley of Ft. Wayne; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sowers and a sister, Mary Etta Shrock.

Stanley lived most of his life in Emma where he milked cows for 43 years and retired from grain farming in 2006 after 59 years.  He was an avid antique collector and was well known in the auction circuit as the “Mayor of Emma”.  He was a member of the Michiana Farm Toy Club and the Shipshewana Historical Society.

He also worked at Sturgis Foundry; Emma Feed Mill; drove school bus for Westview School Corporation; and drove employee vans for Riegsecker Hardwoods.

Stanley was a member of the Emma Mennonite Church where he served as Young Peoples Moderator and sang in the men’s chorus.  He also enjoyed singing with the Gospel Messengers for 46 years.  Stanley and Norma moved to Greencroft Communities in Goshen in 2007.

Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Emma Mennonite Church, and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 funeral at the church.  Rev. Gene Hartman will officiate.

Burial will follow at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or to the church.
