Stanley Dean Leedy, 90, of Goshen, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at The Maples at Waterford Crossing. He was born in Goshen on June 9, 1924, to Russell E. and Beulah N. (Juday) Leedy. On December 21, 1946, he married Barbara Jean Pence, who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Judy Leedy Greer, Albion, Mich.; three daughters, Rebecca J. (Jerry) Reeves, Hampstead, NC, Elizabeth A. (Steve) Pettit, Goshen, and Laury L. (Todd) Allen, Bristol; along with six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. A grandchild, Alexander Jacob (Laury), preceded him in death. Stan lived in the Goshen area his entire life. He graduated from New Paris High School in 1942, and attended Ball State Teacherʼs College. During his freshman year at Ball State, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Stan served as a medic aboard the U.S.S. Winged Arrow, operating in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He often spoke of the amazing sight of witnessing the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. After the War, Stan came back to Goshen and began working at Penn Controls, which later became Johnson Controls. He was an industrial engineer, later becoming the head of engineering. After 43 years of service, he retired in 1988. A born leader with a passion to serve, Stan was actively involved in the Goshen community for much of his life. For years, he was a member of the local Jaycees chapter, serving as President for several terms. He was involved in the PTO while his daughters were students in the Goshen Community Schools. He served as a Goshen city councilman (at large), a member of the Goshen City Board of Public Works, and a member of the Goshen Hospital Board. He was very involved in his church of many years, the Goshen City Church of the Brethren, where he sang in the choir and served on the church board. During his career, he was very involved in the Penn Supervisorʼs organization, Penn AA, and the Electroplaterʼs Society. After retirement, he was active in the Evergreen Singers and Silver Striders at Greencroft Goshen, was a member of the Greencroft Foundation Board of Directors, and sang for many years in the Four Winds Barbershop Chorus. While music was a life-long passion, Stan honed his artistic talents upon retirement, and produced many beautiful paintings that his family and friends will treasure forever. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Goshen, on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. In Stanʼs honor, memorial offerings may be made to either the Wounded Warrior Project, or the First United Methodist Church of Goshen.
