Dr. Stanley L. Carr, D.D.S., 90, of Goshen, died Monday, June 10, 2019, at The Residence at Waterford Crossing.
He was born December 19, 1928 in Syracuse to Orval and Catherine (Hay) Carr. On December 22, 1956 he married Frances Phend. She survives along with two sons, David J. (Sandra) Carr of Zionsville and Dr. Douglas E. (Diane) Carr of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Jacob J. (Mary) Carr, Angela J. Carr, Alexander J. Carr, Evan D. (Ali) Carr and Kaitlin B. Carr; and a brother, Jack Carr of Syracuse.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Carr.
Dr. Carr was a star high school athlete in three sports at Syracuse High School (where he held the record in the 100 yard dash for over 40 years), and was named to the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Basketball Team his senior year in high school.
A U.S. Army veteran, second lieutenant, with overseas service in Japan, Dr. Carr was also an accomplished dentist. He attended Indiana University and graduated from Northwestern University Dental School. He was a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, which is reserved to the top 5% of practitioners. He owned and operated his own dentistry office for 50 years.
A member of First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, Dr. Carr was also a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club, and an avid life-long golfer, who routinely “shot his age” in his 80’s. He was also a member of Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, where he was the 1970 Club Golf Champion. He was a 32 degree Mason at the Goshen Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 27, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Friday, June 28 at First Presbyterian Church, 215 E. Lincoln Ave., Goshen. Rev. Alan Griffin will officiate.
Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery, Goshen, with military honors.
