Shirley Showalter, 90, of Goshen passed away at home on Friday, April 12.
She was born January 28, 1934 in Mishawaka to Edgar and Elsie (Foeckler) Schweisberger.
On March 23, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, H. Dale Showalter. He died October 16, 2006.
Shirley is survived by four children, Pamela (Lee Barker) Showalter of Elkhart, Jeffrey (Paula) Showalter of Syracuse, Patricia Kaska of Mishawaka and Paula (Vince Doyle) Stanage of Goshen; five grandchildren, Cory (Jessica) Showalter of Zionsville, Timothy (Susan) Showalter of Austin, Texas, Broc (Megan) Stanage of Noblesville, Jonathon (Sara) Showalter of Brownsburg and Tyler (Anabel Guedan) Stanage of London, England. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren, Elijah, Evan, Bryn and Lila Showalter, Lillian Stanage, Cecilia Showalter, Rhett Stanage, Lewis Showalter and Adriana Stanage Guedan, and a sister, Phyllis Sterchi of South Bend.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Walker and Joyce Nelson and three brothers, Robert, Gerald and Cecil Schweisberger.
A 1951 graduate of Mishawaka High School, Shirley was a member of Goshen First Church. Along with her husband, Dale, they owned and operated Showalter Buick & GMC in Goshen from 1976 to 1989.
A philanthropist, Mrs. Showalter supported the Elkhart County 4-H Fair, the Boys and Girls Club of Goshen, Bashor Children’s Home, Goshen College’s Nursing program and her church, Goshen First Church.
Private family services will be held.
