Shirley Yoder Mishler Landin, 89, of Oxford, Florida, died Sunday, February 23, 2020, in The Villages, Florida.
She was born January 19, 1931 in Nappanee to Ira Eugene and Dorothy (Manwarren) Davis.
Shirley is survived by her husband, George Landin; children, Sandy (James) Simpson of The Villages, Florida, Rev. Stanley (Valli) Yoder of Maquoketa, Iowa and Peggy (Randy) Carpenter of Goshen; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and a sister, Elsie (Ralph) Snyder of Middlebury
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Yoder in 1996; her second husband, Samuel Mishler in 2006 and two sisters, Helen Petitgoue and Betty Canen.
A 1949 graduate of Nappanee High School, Shirley went on to study at South Bend Cosmetology School and then owned and operated her own shop, Shirley’s Beauty Salon for 30 years in Goshen. Shirley and Wayne then moved to Syracuse, and Shirley worked for Syracuse Elementary as a paraprofessional. She continued to do hair for friends and family, and for the patrons at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse and then later at Nettle’s Island in Florida.
Shirley served on the Church Board, sang in the church choir, active in women’s ministries, and was Jr./Sr. High Youth Leader at First United Methodist Church, Goshen. Shirley loved working and mentoring kids of all ages, sharing her love of life and faith. She led many mission youth trips, and some bicycling trips with Wondering Wheels along the Florida Coast.
Shirley loved to travel, garden, sew, and make crafts. Shirley and Wayne loved to square dance and compete in competitions. When living at Nettle’s Island, Florida, Shirley and George were active in the theater guild.
A memorial service was held at Nettles Island, Florida, March 5, 2020, 3 to 4:30 pm.
Goshen arrangements are private due to public health concerns.
Burial will be in Violett Cemetery.
