Shirley Kritzman

August 24, 1933 — December 29, 2022

Shirley Jane (Loomis) Kritzman, 89, of Millersburg, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Waterford Crossing Legacy Unit, Goshen.

She was born August 24, 1933 in Gagetown, Michigan, to Howard and Cecil (McConkey) Loomis.

On August 29, 1953 she married Irvin Bruce (Bud) Kritzman.  He passed on November 4, 2017.

Shirley and Bud survived raising six children, they survive her:  Kurt I Kritzman of Millersburg, Jane (Keith) Hathaway of Millersburg, Heidi (Dan) Frick of Ligonier, Mark (Diane) Kritzman of Goshen, Matthew (Lanette) Kritzman of Millersburg, and Gretchen (Bryan) Miller of Middlebury.  She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and her youngest brother, David (Joyce) Loomis of Bay City, Michigan.

Shirley was preceded in death by her other siblings, Donald Loomis, Dorothy Murray, Lucille DeLong, and infant brother Francis Loomis.

Mrs. Kritzman was a homemaker at heart.  She spent a short time working at the much beloved Handy Pantry in Millersburg as well as helping at the family business, Millersburg Lumber Co, Inc.  and assisting the Clinton Township Assessor for many years.

She was a community minded person.  While living in Michigan, she was a Girl Scout leader.  After moving to Indiana, she served on the 4-H Lamb Club Advisory board.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and loved volunteering at their Eastern Star Building serving breakfast during the Elkhart County 4-H Fair for many years.

Shirley was a member for 50 years at Zion Community Church where she served many years as their secretary and published the monthly church newsletter.  Her free time was spent quilting both at her church and home.  Many quilts were made by her and her friends at church to sell at the church bazaar.  She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren when they were married.

Most well known for her baking and cooking, she was a master at her sugar cookies.  A big meal with lots of goodies was always available at the Kritzman home.  Her Christmas candy was always a special gift enjoyed by all that received it.

The viewing for Mrs. Kritzman will be held Thursday, January 5 th , 2023 from 2 to 8 pm at Yoder Culp Funeral Home, Goshen.  Services will be held Friday, January 6 th , 2023, at 10:30 am with a viewing one hour prior at Zion Community Church, Millersburg, with former Pastor Bob Doane officiating.

Burial will be at Brown Cemetery, Millersburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to her church, Zion Community Church, Millersburg, or the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Foundation, Goshen, Indiana.

The family thanks The Legacy Unit at Waterford Crossing for the wonderful care provided to Shirley.
