Shirley I. Hardesty, 90, of Goshen, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born on May 24, 1935, in Goshen, to Kenneth and Susie (Brown) Stauffer. On December 25, 1952, she married the love of her life, Charles Hardesty, in Goshen. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and simple joys.
Shirley is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Peggy (William) Horton of Three Rivers; four grandchildren, Travis, Matthew (Nichole), Ryan (Carlye) Henline, and Megohn Horton; her treasured great-grandchildren, Tansley (Cole), Oliver, J. Charlie “Bean,” and Noah; and one great-great-granddaughter, Paislee.
She is also survived by her sister, Carol May of New Paris; sisters-in-law, Cami Hardesty of Goshen and Mary VanHook of Goshen; brothers, Charles Stauffer of Goshen and Ronnie Stauffer of Elkhart; and nephews, Kevin Ulery of Elkhart, James Ulrey of White Pigeon, Michigan, Ben May of Illinois and Will VanHook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Charles; and her siblings, Larry Stauffer and Dorcas Bertran.
Shirley was a proud member of the Goshen DAV Auxiliary, Chapter 15. She found great happiness in life’s quiet pleasures — camping and fishing trips, tending her garden, watching birds, reading a good book, and taking long walks with her faithful dog, Mia. Above all else, she cherished time spent with her family, who were the center of her world. Her gentle spirit, steady presence, and loving heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Violett Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be directed to Goshen Home Care and Hospice.
