Shirley Ann Capon

August 6, 1929 — April 7, 2023

Goshen

Shirley A. Capon, 93, of Goshen, passed away Friday, April 7, at Goshen Hospital of natural causes. She entered the presence of her Savior quietly and peacefully.

She was born August 6, 1929 in Rose Creek, Minnesota, to Alfred O. and Sophia (Rofshus) Overlie.

On June 16, 1951 she married Dale E. Capon in Austin, Minnesota.  He went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2014.

Shirley’s goal in life was to be a wife and mother. God was gracious in giving her the desires of her heart.

She enjoyed traveling across the United States and overseas with her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her sister and brother-in-law. She also enjoyed downhill skiing, camping and hiking with her family.

Watching college football and basketball was a favorite pastime. She was a very enthusiastic fan! She also enjoyed reading for a good portion of her adult life.

Church and the things of God were always very important to her. However, it was not until her late 40’s while attending a Christian conference, that she came under conviction for her sin and trusted Jesus Christ to save her.

Her love for the Word of God led her to be involved in Christian Women’s Club, Bible Study Fellowship and her local church. Shirley has been a member of Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa for many years. She also took great delight in supporting a number of Christian ministries.

Survivors include a daughter, Christine (David) Boehner, Goshen; two sons, Tim (Sandy) Capon, Ankeny, Iowa and Peter (Janine) Capon, Bristol; eight grandchildren (along with seven spouses); 14 great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Daphine Ofsthun; and two brothers, Ralph and George Overlie.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.  Pastor David Harper will officiate.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen.

Memorial donations may be given to Samaritan’s Purse or Bible Baptist Church, Wakarusa.
