Sharon Ann Gongwer died Friday, December 30, 2022 at her home.
She was born April 14, 1938 in the Wakarusa area to Walter and Mary (Blocher) Gongwer. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn J.
A graduate of Wakarusa High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan. Before moving east, she taught intermediate grades in Elkhart and a semester in Vero Beach, Florida, as well as holding government related positions in Indianapolis.
Living in Washington D.C. and later in Crofton, Maryland, she held positions with several consulting firms where her writing skills were utilized; the Census Bureau, the Library of Congress and the Department of Commerce. She enjoyed painting, mostly watercolors, writing children’s stories, never published, playing the piano and traveling, both domestic and foreign.
After her retirement from the Federal Government, along with her faithful beagle, Buttercup, she moved back home to Indiana, where she settled in Keystone Pointe, Goshen. She continued to live an active and creative life.
In 2014, due to health issues, she moved to The Residence at Waterford Crossing, where she remained until her death. She will be missed.
Per Sharon’s wishes, there will be no services or memorials gifts. In her memory and to honor her life, please do an extra act of kindness.
