Sharon S. Bontrager

Sharon S. Bontrager, 71, of Goshen, died Tuesday morning, September 1, 2015 at her home following a cancer diagnosis in 2013. She was born May 28, 1944 in Goshen to Ervin and Lovina (Kropf) Nisley. On July 29, 1966 she married Merv Bontrager at North Goshen Mennonite Church, Goshen. He survives along with daughters Monica (Mike) Sperl of Waupaca, Wisconsin, and Heather Bontrager of Cedar Lake, and grandchildren, Amber and Luke Sperl. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother and sister. Sharon and Merv spent 14 years living in suburban Chicago and St. Louis before returning to Goshen. She taught kindergarten through second grade at various schools, retiring from Concord Community Schools in 2007. She was a member of Silverwood Mennonite Church, the Dunlap Lions Club and the Gene Van Accordion Group. Sharon was a very positive person and had a passion for sewing, tailoring clothes and doing embroidery work. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Silverwood Mennonite Church, where an 11 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2015 memorial service will take place. Pastor Rachel Nolt will officiate. According to her wishes cremation will take place with burial at a later date. Memorial gifts may be directed to Dunlap Lions Eyeglass Mission or Goshen Home Care & Hospice.
