Sharen A. Staup, 76, of Elkhart died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Elkhart Hospital.

She was born September 4, 1944 in Adrian, Michigan to Earl and Verna (McCarty) Maierle.

On July 11, 1964 she married John K. Staup.  He died September 25, 2010.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn (Scott Rizek) Weaver of Lakeville and Heather Baumgart of Sellersburg; two grandchildren, Cory and Taylor Baumgart; four siblings, Loren (Donna) Maierle of Albion, Ray (Liz) Maierle of Goshen, Caren (Lynn) Chappell of Harrison, Michigan and Sue Romans of Goshen; a sister-in-law, Betty Fike, Mishawaka; and a brother-in-law Arthur Smith, Oregon.

Sharen was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Raylee Smith and Eleanor Colvin.

She graduated from Leesburg High School in 1962 and Grace College in 1966.  She was a special education teacher for the Greater Clark Community Schools for more than 20 years.

A very musical person, Mrs. Staup played the organ and the piano and taught music and voice.

She and her husband, John, started Maranatha Baptist Church in Jeffersonville where she was very active.  She served as organist, pianist, choir director, helped with the children’s programs and Vacation Bible schools

Visitation will be Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 27664 C.R. 24, Elkhart.  Rev. Timothy Wesco will officiate.

Burial will follow in Leesburg Cemetery, Leesburg, Indiana.
