Sara A. Schlabach, 73, of Goshen, died Friday afternoon, September 11, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. She was born in Winsor Township, Huron County, Michigan, on May 18, 1936, to the late John and Mina (Edelman) Kauffman. She married Theron F. Schlabach on January 8, 1955 in the Benton Mennonite Church, Benton, Indiana. He survives. A homemaker, Mrs. Schlabach worked as a bookkeeper for Shantz and Weldy Feed Mill, Mennonite Mutual Aid and La Casa. Mrs. Schlabach was a member of College Mennonite Church and the Sojourners Sunday School Class. She directed Ten Thousand Villages for the Michiana MCC Relief Sale. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Kristina (Keith) Johnson of Goshen; three sons, Gerald (Joetta) Schlabach and Roderic (Mary Beth) Schlabach, both of Goshen and J. Carlyle (Julie Birky) of McGregor, Texas; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and four sisters, Fern (Kenneth) Oswald of Hutchinson, Kansas, Esther Kauffman of Goshen, Mary Lou (Philip) Meek of Elkhart and Ruth (Steve) Stump of New Paris. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 14 in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church, Goshen. An 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at College Mennonite Church. Pastors Klaudia Smucker and Gary Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Clinton Union Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jubilee Fund of College Mennonite Church or Mennonite Central Committee.
