Sara Detweiler, 81, of Goshen, formerly of Fairview, Michigan, died Monday, October 18, 2021, at her home after more than five years battling cancer.
She was born April 13, 1940 in Belleville, Pennsylvania to Irvin and Lena (Zook) Roth.
On August 10, 1963 she married Reuel Detweiler in Allensville, Pennsylvania.
He survives along with three sons, Craig (Tonya), Lavon (Dawn) and Todd (Katelynn), all of Goshen; eight grandchildren, Alex, Lauren, William (Tessa), Jackson, Nathan, Jenna, Harrison and Sawyer; a sister, Marjorie Yoder of Middlebury; and two sisters-in-law, Joy and Shirley Roth.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Jay Roth; a brother-in-law, Ray Yoder; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Roth.
Mrs. Detweiler was a former member of Fairview Mennonite Church, Fairview, Michigan and current member of Clinton Frame Church, Goshen. She worked as a social services director for more than 20 years in long term care facilities.
Sara was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and wintering in Florida for many years with her husband, Reuel.
According to her wishes, cremation will take place at Yoder-Culp Crematory. Private family services have been held. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Clinton Frame Church, Goshen.
Memorial gifts in Sara’s honor may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee.
