Sandra J. Coy

Jan 27, 1951 — Jun 21, 2026

Goshen

Sandra Joan Coy, 75, of Goshen, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family and the care and comfort of Goshen Hospice on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after a lengthy battle with ALS.

Born on January 27, 1951, in Elkhart, Indiana, Sandra was the daughter of Joseph Scheidel and Doris O. Cripe. On June 20, 1970, she married the love of her life, Phillip Coy, in Goshen. Together they shared more than fifty years of marriage, building a life centered on family, friendship, and creating cherished memories. Phillip preceded her in death on October 29, 2020. She was also preceded in death by grandchildren Jadelyn and Hudson Coy.

Sandra dedicated many years of her professional life as the office manager for Dr. Max Mertz, where her kindness, organization, and caring nature were appreciated by both coworkers and patients alike.

Family was the center of Sandra’s world. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Daphne L. Coy of Goshen and David W. Coy of New Paris; and her grandchildren, Alex, Ellis, and Braeley Coy. She is also survived by her brothers, Larry (Alberta) Scheidel of New Paris and Tim (Lyn) Scheidel of Griffith, and her sister, Pam (Jamie) Reed of Nappanee, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Sandra embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She was an active member of Nappanee Missionary Church and found great fulfillment in her faith and church family. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, enjoyed bowling and golfing, and especially loved traveling. One of her greatest pleasures was taking bus trips with family and friends, creating lasting memories and sharing countless laughs along the way. She particularly looked forward to attending the Rose Bowl Parade last December, a dream come true. Sandra also enjoyed attending performances at the Morris Civic Theatre and spending time with those she loved.

Those who knew Sandra will remember her warm smile, generous spirit, and genuine interest in the lives of others. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and valued, and her kindness touched many lives. Her love for family, her sense of adventure, and her joyful outlook on life will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. A funeral service celebrating Sandra’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. Pastor Jason Rohde of Nappanee Missionary Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery.

Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in the many wonderful memories she leaves behind and the love she shared so freely throughout her life. Her legacy of kindness, devotion, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
