Samuel Joseph (Joe or S.J.) Schrock, 72, of Chandler, Arizona and also of Millersburg, Indiana, and long time resident of Syracuse, Indiana, died unexpectedly as the result of cardiovascular disease on November 26, 2007, at his winter residence. He was born August 15, 1935, in rural Benton Township southeast of Goshen to George D. and Pearl E. (Hartsough) Schrock. He married Lauretta Wilson on Aug. 26, 1956, in Goshen.  They divorced in 1985 but remained close life long friends. He is survived by Lauretta Schrock along with their two sons, J.C. (Katharine) Schrock of Goshen and Kevin (Tonya) Schrock of Syracuse; four granddaughters, Candice (Travis) Targgart, Courtney (Malachi) Lindsey, Caitlin Schrock, Kayla Schrock; two grandsons, Carter Schrock, Chad Schrock; one great-granddaughter, Malkia Lindsey; one great-grandson, Malik Lindsey; two step-granddaughters, Jackie Todd, Jessie Todd; one step-grandson, Chris (Stacie) Todd; two step-great-granddaughters, Rylie Todd, Alexis Gooden; two step-great-grandsons, Dylan Todd, Jackson Todd; one sister, Peg (John) Lantzer of Goshen, and two brothers, Don (Sherry) Schrock of Goshen, and Jerry (Susan) Schrock of Syracuse and his long time friend Susan Street in Chandler, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George Calvin Schrock on June 16, 1939 and Harold A. Schrock on April 16, 1992. Mr. Schrock was a 1954 graduate of Millersburg High School, where he was lettered in three sports. He is the second all-time career scorer in Millersburg basketball with 784 points.  He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960.  He was a member of American Legion Post 484 in Millersburg and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Millersburg. He was involved in construction his entire life.  He worked for his grandfather and father at Schrock Plaster Company.  In 1954, his brother Don and he started D-J Construction Company.  He sold his half of the business in 1966.  He owned several other construction businesses including Tri-Jo-Co and S.J.& Company and worked into his late sixties as a self-employed carpenter, concrete finisher, mason and handy man.  He enjoyed working in the yard and flowerbeds, was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved all of his family’s pets. A private memorial service for family and close friends will be held later in December.  Interment will be in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Joe Schrock 784 Memorial Basketball Scholarship (for Fairfield and Wawasee High School athletes) c/o First State Bank Trust Dept., P.O.
