Ruthe B. Kerlin, 95, of Goshen, passed away Thursday evening, January 2, 2014, at IU Health Goshen Hospital following a brief illness. She was born February 8, 1918 in Wakarusa, to Theodore N. Herring and Lena (Hoover) Herring Lutes. On June 19, 1937 she married George Kerlin in London, Ohio. They had been married 68 years at the time of his death in 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Judianne (James) Hollinger, Goshen; two sons, Ronald L. (Carolyn) Kerlin, North Fort Myers, Florida., and Richard A. (Patricia) Kerlin, Katy, Texas; 10 grandchildren: Craig Hollinger, Caryn (Chris) Howell, Cynthia (Jeff) Gilmer, Curtis Hollinger, Kris Kerlin, Chad (Kelly) Kerlin, Amy (Andrew) Conacher, Todd (Allison) Kerlin, Natalie (Simon) Midianga, Josh Kerlin, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a sister, Dorothy Nelson and a brother, Wilfrid Herring. Mrs. Kerlin had, in the past, worked at Lake City Bank, Warsaw, the Admitting department at Goshen General Hospital, and was for many years a Dental Assistant in Goshen. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Goshen. A 1935 graduate of Warsaw High School, Ruthe had many interests in life; she was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and at age 88 went skydiving for the first time, becoming the oldest person in Indiana to sky dive. She was a church pianist for over 50 years as well as a volunteer for the Greencroft community. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen. The funeral service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. with Dr. Gregg Lanzen, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Goshen officiating. A private burial will follow on Monday at Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Greencroft Foundation.
