Ruth Helena Walker, 93, of Goshen, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Febraury 7, 2017 at Greencroft Health Care after a brief illness.
She was born May 6, 1923 in Mishawaka to Rev. August H. and Helena J. (Herrif) Miller.
On March 15, 1942 she married Robert D. Long in Millersburg. He died June 22, 1984. Later she married William R. Walker on December 18, 1994. He died March 5, 2007.
Ruth was preceded in death by her oldest son, Barry D. Long on Dec. 9, 2016, her parents, her two sisters, Mary Woodruff and Louise Warren and her brother, Patrick Miller.
Survivors include a son, Greg L. (Debbie) Long of Millersburg; two daughters, Lane Ann Buckner of Fort Wayne and Laurel (Paul) Spurgeon of Goshen; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Long of Joliet, Montana; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Ruth has also remained close with William’s family, all of whom live in Canada.
Ruth enjoyed her work as a teacher’s aide at Fairfield Jr./Sr. High School in the library. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Millersburg until it closed. She was currently a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Fish Lake.
Ruth loved to travel. She visited most of America’s national parks. She loved music. She played the piano and sang. She even was the lead in a musical. She enjoyed square dancing, round dancing and clogging.
Ruth enjoyed keeping up with the news and current events. She was also a member of the P & G Card Club since 1944 where she made lifelong friends.
Friends may call Friday, February 10, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where a 10 a.m., Saturday, February 11, funeral service will be conducted. Pastor Jimmy Clifton will officiate.
Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery, Millersburg.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
