Ruth I. Royer

Ruth Irene Royer, 88, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born June 14, 1928 in Indianapolis to Roy Dallas Gates and Frances Ruth (Chambers) Merriman.

On September 10, 1969 she married Maurice E. Royer in Ligonier.  He preceded her in death May 15, 2007.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen K. Slone of Fort Wayne and Carla J. (Jim) Hamilton of Goshen; five grandchildren, Cristi Klemp, Cindi Ott and James, Tricia and Renae Slone ; 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Donald L. Gates and infant Robert Gates.

Mrs. Royer lived most of her life in Ligonier before moving to Florida for nine years and then back to Goshen.

She worked at Comfo-Sleep in Wakarusa before moving to Monsanto in Ligonier where she worked for 20 years.

An active member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church, Mrs. Royer enjoyed crafts, was a talented baker and very good cook.  In her younger adult years she was an avid bowler.

Friends may call Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 9 until the 10:30 a.m. funeral service at Dunlap United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerald E. Turner officiating.

Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Riley Children’s Hospital.
