Ruth Liechty, 77, of Goshen, died Monday morning, March 23, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. She was born in Wayland, Iowa, on December 17, 1931, to Daniel and Luetta (Kauffman) Conrad. She married Stanley Liechty on August 17, 1959, in Wayland, Iowa. He survives. A Goshen resident since 1958, Mrs. Liechty taught elementary school for several years before becoming a full time homemaker. She also served as an administrative secretary for Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship and Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries. A member of Berkey Avenue Fellowship, she was a free lance writer for devotionals like Rejoice! and God’s Messenger. Always active in her local congregation, she served in many capacities from Sunday School teacher to administrative elder. She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Jeanne (Michael Dickens) Liechty of Goshen; two sons, Jonathan Liechty of New York City, and Jered Liechty of Goshen; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Willard Conrad of Hesston, Kansas, and James Conrad of Amana, Iowa. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Conrad. Friends may call 1-3 and 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship, Goshen, where a 6:00 p.m., memorial service will be conducted. Pastors Anita Kehr and Dan Schrock will officiate. Burial will be in Greencroft Memorial Gardens, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee or Berkey Avenue Mennonite Fellowship Library.
