Ruth W. Roop, 91, of Omaha, Nebraska, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska. She had been ill since December 2007 with cancer. James Earl Roop, 93, of Omaha, Nebraska, died July 5, 2008 in Omaha. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 24, 1917, to A.C. and Katherine (Broadwater) Wieand. He was born on February 11, 1915, in Waterloo, Indiana, to George Edward and Carrie Lindsey (Dickey) Roop. They were married on May 14, 1938 in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Roop lived most of their lives in South Bend until 1988 when they moved to Greencroft in Goshen. In 2006 they moved to Omaha. She was a 1960 graduate of Bethel College. Mr. Roop graduated from Riley High School in 1932, Manchester College in 1936, and Indiana University in 1941. They were members of Goshen City Church of the Brethren. They are survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Fred) Scott of Omaha, Nebraska; two sons, William (Gayle) Roop of Fullerton, California, and Kenneth (Judy) Roop of Marrero, Louisiana; ten grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. An 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2008, memorial service will be held for both Ruth and her husband, Jim, at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. Pastor Yvonne Riege of Goshen City Church of the Brethren will officiate. A private burial will take place in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Brethren, Elgin, Illinois; or Bethany Theological Seminary, Richmond, Indiana.
