Ruth I. Horst

Ruth I. Horst, 86, of Goshen died Tuesday morning, October 27, 2015 at Greencroft Healthcare, Goshen. She was born September 28, 1929 in Salem, Ohio to John and Ida (Weaver) Horst. She worked as an administrative assistant at Mennonite Central Committee, Akron, Pennsylvania from 1951-54; Menno Travel Service, Newton, Kansas from 1954-60 and in Amsterdam, Holland 1960-63; Goshen College from 1963-86; and Mennonite Board of Missions, Elkhart from 1986 until her retirement in 1997. Ruth was an active member of the North Goshen Mennonite Church since moving to Goshen in 1963. Since her retirement she has enjoyed volunteering at Goshen General Hospital, Oaklawn, Meals on Wheels, and Greencroft. She is survived by a brother John (Elsie) Horst of Sarasota, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she loved and appreciated. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother James, and a sister Vera Witmer. Friends may call Friday, October 30, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A Saturday, October 31, 2015 10:00 am prayer service will be held at the funeral home prior to burial at Elkhart Prairie cemetery. A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 31, 2015 at North Goshen Mennonite Church. Rev. Mark Schloneger will officiate Memorials may be given to Mennonite Central Committee or North Goshen Mennonite Church.
