Ruth Hainline Covington (nee Bertsche), 90, of Goshen died January 8, 2016 at 7:30 am at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen. She had been in declining health for several months.
Ruth was born June 24, 1925 in Bluffton, Ohio, to Harry Bertsche and Emma Steiner, both deceased. Ruth was also predeceased by her two brothers, James Bertsche, Goshen and Evan Bertsche, Archbold, Ohio.
Ruth attended Taylor University, Upland, Indiana and then IU Bloomington, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1949. After graduation, Ruth relocated to the Los Angeles area where she spent her career in nursing and nursing administration. On May 7, 1960, she married Frank Hainline, who died in October, 1979.
Ruth lived for a brief time in a retirement community in Perris, Calf. In 2003, she moved to assisted living at Greencroft Retirement Community, Goshen, in order to be closer to family. Ruth married Robert Covington of Goshen on Dec. 28, 2008. Mr. Covington passed away in July 2010.
Ruth in survived by two sisters-in-law, Genevieve Bertsche, Goshen and Loretta Bertsche, League City, Texas. Also surviving are five nieces and two nephews, as well as many grand nieces and nephews, living in various parts of the United States.
Among other things, Ruth will be remembered for her great enjoyment of good times with family and friends, her love of coffee and chocolate, and her wonderful spirit which was at once feisty and tender-hearted. Ruth will be missed by all who knew her and helped care for her.
According to Ruth’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Yoder-Culp Crematory.
The family will plan a memorial service at a later time.
