Ruth A. Craig, 83, of Goshen, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Greencroft Goshen Healthcare, following a long illness of Alzheimers-like dementia. She had been cared for and attended to by Greencroft's loving and competent staff since March 2012. She was born May 3, 1931 in West Liberty, Ohio to Stephen S. and Mamie (Byler) Hostetler. She attended Goshen College and was trained as an elementary school teacher and taught for a time in Ohio. On June 14, 1958 she married Rev. Richard M. Craig in the Presbyterian Church, West Liberty. He survives along with three children, J. Christopher Craig of Chatham, New Jersey, Caroline E. Craig of Cincinnati, Ohio and Peter D. (Liza Terry) Craig of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; two granddaughters, Eryn and Vivienne Craig; three sisters and a brother, Ella Mae (Lowell) Kauffman, Nellie (Richard) Lindemer, Paul (Linda) Hostetler, all of West Liberty and Rose Smith of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Earl Hostetler and three sisters, Norma Hostetler, Eileen Botkin and Pauline Towles. She was a member of the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes, Angola. Ruth was a loving mother and pastor's wife, gentle in spirit, loved and respected by all who knew and served with her. She had a passion for good music and a fine singing voice, soloing with many choirs and musical groups. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, fishing and boating. Friends may call Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at The Meeting House at Greencroft Healthcare, 1904 South 15th Street, Goshen. Pastor Thomas E. Smith, Chapel of the Lakes, and Greencroft Chaplain Randy Roth will conduct the service. A graveside committal service will take place on Monday, May 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty. Preferred memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Greencroft Communities Foundation or the Presbyterian Chapel of the Lakes.
