Ruth Faye Clouse, 86, died Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Greencroft Healthcare.
She was born May 17, 1937 in Woodburn, Oregon to William and Mabel (Hostetler) Hostetler.
On July 17, 1954 she married Wendell Clouse in Goshen. Wendell died June 7 of this year.
She is survived by a brother, Richard (Patricia), of Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta (Jess, deceased) Fisher, and a brother Robert (Rita).
She is also survived by son Randy (Pam) of Goshen, and daughters Carol (Mark) Scroggs of Burbank, California, and Donna (David) Patuzzi of Goshen. Her grandchildren include Andrew (Amanda Lind) Clouse of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Dan (Kelly) Clouse of Denver, Colorado; Cole Patuzzi of Goshen; Breann (Chad) Schubert of St Louis, Missouri; Zachary (Elspeth) Stalter-Clouse of Madison, Wisconsin; and Nicholas Scroggs of Burbank, California. Great grandchildren are Sam Clouse and Sierra, Zinnia and Jayce Schubert. She loved her family, and would do anything for her grandchildren.
Ruth’s family lived in Oregon for a few years before returning to Middlebury. They then moved to Goshen in 1949. She was a member of the Goshen High School Class of 1955.
She was baptized at Forks Mennonite Church. For the last 40 plus years she was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren. She served on the Camp Mack board and did volunteer work there.
Ruth was also active in local homemaker clubs, including serving as vice president and president of the Elkhart County Extension Homemakers.
Ruth worked at many jobs during her life but is remembered by many as a long-time waitress and manager at South Side Soda Shop. She was also well known as a seamstress. This included sewing many patches for fire and police uniforms. She also altered costumes and gowns for Goshen High School and Goshen College choirs and theater performances. She was known for her last-minute heroics to save bridal gowns and prom dresses. She also sewed for charity, including making baby blankets.
The family would like to express their great appreciation to the staffs of Greencroft Healthcare and Goshen Hospice.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Goshen City Church of the Brethren, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Her ashes will be scattered at the Greencroft Memorial Garden.
Memorial donations may be given to Goshen City Church of the Brethren or Camp Mack.
