Ruby Pauline “Polly” Adams, 100, of Goshen, died early Sunday afternoon, December 20, 2009, at Greencroft Healthcare. She had been in failing health since 1997. She was born on September 20, 1909 in Goshen, to the late Charles Hebert and Ruby Alice (Hatch) Adams. A lifelong Goshen resident, Miss Adams graduated from Goshen High School in 1927.  At the age of 12 she started working at The Adams’ Store which was opened in 1898 by her grandfather, Charles Granville Adams.  She was the owner and operator of The Adams’ Store from 1971 until its closing in June 1997.  The original store was located at the present site of The Goshen News before moving about one block south.  The store was sold in 1997 to the Goshen Historical Society. Miss Adams was a member of First United Methodist Church, Goshen, and a former member of the Goshen Business Professional Women. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Emma Rich, age 101, of Escondido, California, and Rose Elizabeth Hutchinson, age 96, of Beaverton, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Herbert Hatch Adams in 1993. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 22, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, where a 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2009, funeral service will be conducted.  Pamela Kling, pastoral assistant at First United Methodist Church, Goshen, will officiate. A private burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or to the  Goshen Historical Society.
