Roy C. Mathews

Roy C. Mathews, 89, of Middlebury, died Wednesday afternoon, June 18, 2008, at Goshen General Hospital where he had been admitted on Monday. He was born in Milford, Indiana, on September 24, 1918, to David and Celsta (Price) Mathews.  He married Blanche “Betty” Denton on January 15, 1944.  She died June 5, 1990. A resident of the Goshen/Middlebury area since 1945, Mr. Mathews retired from Excel Industry.  He served in the U.S. Army Air Guard in airplane maintenance.  He was honorably discharged in 1943.  He was a member of the VFW Post #985.  He enjoyed bird watching, hunting and fishing. He is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Lillian Ann Douglas in 2002; three sisters, Marjorie Bell, Gladys Bowen, and Dorothy Davis; and four brothers, Albert, Everett, Russell and Willard Mathews. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 20 at the funeral home. Rev. John McFarland of the Little Pine Church of the Brethren will officiate at the Saturday, June 21, 2008, funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Milford Cemetery, Milford, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Goshen Care at Home Hospice.
