Roy J. Hershberger, 92, of Goshen died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at home.
He was born in Elkhart County on August 5, 1925 to Josiah and Rosa (Swartzentruber) Hershberger.
He graduated from Millersburg High School in 1943. On November 23 of that year he joined the Marine Corps and served in the Pacific. After the battle on Okinawa he served six months in China. He belonged to the 1st Marine Association, Tankers Association, and the China Marines.
In January 1947 he married Eunice Nelson who survives.
Also surviving are children, Nelson (Judy) Hershberger, Nadine (Jack) Bechtel, Evelyn (Terry) Schollian, and Marlene (Bob) Taylor; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Chester Hershberger.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Davis; two granddaughters, Laurel and Erica Davis; his parents; two sisters; and a brother.
Roy started work at IXL and then worked at Aurora Cabinets as a carpenter. He was an expert woodworker and made many gifts for his children and grandchildren. He was a life member at the VFW and a world traveler who loved gardening and fishing.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June , 20181 at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home where at 10:00 a.m. funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 2. Hospice Chaplain Terri Geiser will officiate.
Burial will follow at Hess Cemetery.
