Rosalyn J. “Roz” Harris, 81, died late on Friday afternoon, February 20, 2009, at the Maples at Waterford Crossing in Goshen. She was born in Lawton, Michigan, on July 10, 1927 to Lawrence H. and Dorothy (Lewis) Spencer. She lived in Goshen since 1953, coming from South Bend. She moved to Wolcottville in 1988 and returned to Goshen in 1995. Although a Goshen resident, she did spend winters in Palmetto Palms, Fort Myers, Florida. She was married to Verlyn L. “Doc Harris on August 16, 1947, in Lawton, MI. He preceded her in death on May 4, 2006. She was a homemaker as well as owned and operated her own music store “The Music Mart” located on Lincoln Ave. in Goshen. She taught piano for many years. She was also a former worker at the Salem Bank in Goshen. She graduated from Lawton High School and attended Kalamazoo College. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Goshen, Federated Women’s Club of Goshen, and Sigma Eta Fine Arts Sorority. She played the piano at the First Presbyterian Church for many years and was a well known accompaniest and producer of musical programs. She is survived by one daughter, Debra (Steve) Wolfe of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Larry S. (Bobbi) Harris of South Bend, IN, and Steven M. (Sandra) Harris of Goshen; 4 grandchildren, Mike Rohn, Nathaniel Harris, Chelsea Hildebrandt, and Briana Wolfe; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence “Lewis” (Lois) Spencer of Lawton, MI; and one sister, Margaret Brown of Lawton, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, and infant sister, Mildred; a grandson, Lawrence Spencer Harris, II; grand-daughter, Erica Harris McCoy; and a great-granddaughter, Mikayla McCoy. A public Memorial and Burial Service will be held at a later date with Pastor Alan Griffin of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen officiating. Burial will be at Violett Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or Donor’s Choice.
