Rosalie J. Miller, 97, of South Bend and formerly of Goshen, died early Wednesday morning, August 14, 2013, at Kindred Healthcare. She was born June 21, 1916 in St. Louis, Missouri, to John and Ann (Ptacek) Svoboda. She married Julian P. Miller June 22, 1940 in St. Louis. He died July 27, 2001. Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Judith Ann Boehm of South Bend; a son, James E. Miller of Yellow Springs, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; a son, Julian "Jay" Miller and three sisters, Marie Lampe, Audrey Peak and Margaret Riebold. She was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. A former member of Maplecrest County Club, she was an avid bridge player at Maplecrest and later at Tanglewood following her move to Mishawaka. She took great joy and was a big part in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, August 16, 2013, from 4 until the 7 p.m. Rosary at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013, funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Fernando Jimenez officiating. Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's.
