Goshen - On April 24, 2018 at 8:10 a.m., Ronald E. Zentz, 84, went home be with his Lord and Savior after fighting illness for a year.
He was born Feb. 26, 1934 in Goshen to Wayne M. & Elsie (Cramer) Zentz.
On June 6, 1958 he married Millicent “Millie” Dean in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She survives along with two daughters, Debra (Joseph) Robeck and Cheryl (James) Jackson, both of Goshen; one sister, Dianne K. Mick of Goshen; four grandchildren, Amanda Einselen, Nicholas Einselen, Jennifer (Matt) Maskell, and Adam (Natasha) Jackson; and four great-grandchildren, Brayden and Emilee Maskell, and Titan and Maya Jackson.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers, Dallas and Donald Zentz, and a sister, Phyllis Brainard.
Ron was a 1952 Goshen High School graduate, where he was an honorable mention center for football. He also attended Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, for one year.
Ron fought in the Korean War and also proudly served on the Goshen City Police Department from 1957-1989, retiring as a Commander.
He was an avid Goshen High School “Redskin” football fan, as well as a member of the F.O.P, and a part of the pistol team for the police. He was active in church activities and enjoyed golfing. Most of all, Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and it brought him great joy to be as involved as possible with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities and daily lives.
Visitation will be Friday, April 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and a 2 p.m. funeral service will be conducted Saturday. Pastor Michael Howard, Lighthouse Baptist Church, Goshen, and retired Pastor Louis Showers will officiate.
Burial of cremated remains will be at West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen, at a later date.
