Ronald G. Sherck, 79, of Bristol, died at his home early Wednesday morning, Sept. 24, 2014. He was born in rural Middlebury August 26, 1935 to Noble and Imogene (Prough) Sherck. On June 20, 1959, he married Beverly King in Indianapolis. She died Aug. 20, 2003. Survivors include four children, Ronald (Julia) Sherck II, of Union City, James (Donna) Sherck, of Bristol, Sarah (Dave) Yoder, of Louisville, Ky., and John (Suzanne) Sherck, of Bristol; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Joyce (Larry) Sarver, of Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Kitt Sherck. A lifelong area resident, Dr. Sherck began practicing family dentistry in 1959 where he owned and operated a dental office in Goshen for 46 years until his retirement in 2005. He was a 1953 graduate of Goshen High School and attended Goshen College before transferring to Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis earning a Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree in 1959. In his retirement he did volunteer dentistry work including dental mission trips to Nicaragua and Ecuador. Dr. Sherck was also actively involved in supporting the efforts of Heifer International with particular interest in their work in the Arkansas Delta region. Dr. Sherck was the "adopted" dad to 3 refugee Chinese brothers, Coung, Quang and Hung Ly, from Vietnam who he helped sponsor through his church. Dr. Sherck was a member of Trout Unlimited and enjoyed fly fishing with his wife in Montana. He also enjoyed working on his farm in the Bristol fruit hills. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, Middlebury. Friends may call Friday, September 26, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11 a.m., at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 54180 CR 8, Middlebury. Sons John and Ron Sherck II will be officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Heifer International.
