Ronald M. Rhine, 76, of Goshen, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing.
He was born April 3, 1941 in Nappanee to Maurice and Ruby Rhine.
On October 13, 1979 he married Judith Miller. She died May 28, 2003. He later married Elnora Kauffman Babin July 3, 2004.
She survives along with his mother, Ruby Rhine of Lafayette; a step-daughter, Michele Babin of Fishers and two siblings, Stanley Rhine of Lafayette and Joyce Rodman of California.
He was preceded in death by his father and first wife.
A 1959 graduate of Nappanee High School, Mr. Rhine was a deputy with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s department and an EMT. He retired from Klink Trucking where he was a dispatcher and driver.
He served with the U.S. Air Force in Turkey from 1963 to 1969.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an extensive collector of antique guns and rifles. He had built his own blacksmithing shop on his farm and made his own ammunition. He enjoyed target shooting.
He also built model trains and enjoyed collecting model tractors.
His favorite daily routine included going to meet the guys at the Hilltop Restaurant for coffee.
Friends may call Sunday, May 28, 2017 from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
A private family burial was held Friday, May 26, 2017 at Whitehead Cemetery, New Paris.
