Ronald “Abe” Bernstein, 82, of Goshen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

He was born on August 1, 1943, in Indianapolis to Joseph and Sara (Platt) Bernstein. On August 10, 1968, he married Jo Ellen (Falvey) Bernstein in Winamac, Indiana, beginning a lifelong partnership built on love and devotion.

Abe is survived by his wife, Jo Ellen Bernstein, and his son, Jeremy Bernstein, both of Goshen, his cousins Robin Ozan of New York City and Randi (Scott) Ozan Costanzo of Dublin, Ohio, two nieces, Lisa (Michael) Syring Kott of Toledo, Ohio and Robin Rosen, Cleveland, Ohio, and his sister-in-law, Kay Lanter of Roanoke, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Phyllis Rosen.

Abe graduated from Broad Ripple High School and went on to attend Indiana University Bloomington, where he completed his undergraduate studies and later earned his master’s degree in January of 1968. He served his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971.

Abe dedicated his professional life to helping others as a mental health counselor, a career he deeply valued and found meaningful. He was known for his compassion, insight, and commitment to all those he served.

In his personal time, Abe enjoyed playing fantasy football and bridge. He appreciated the camaraderie and friendly competition it brought.

Special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Visiting Angels, for providing Abe with exceptional care, comfort and dignity.

The scattering of cremated remains will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, in the Cremation Garden at Violett Cemetery in Goshen.

Abe will be remembered as a kind, gentle, soul who was dedicated to his family and made a quiet impact in the lives of many.
