On June 26, 2023, Roger Lee Yoder passed from the loving arms of his wife Judy, into the arms of his Savior. From his home birth on August 11, 1941 in St. Joseph County, Roger’s story rang with love, laughter, giving, and service. Roger served the PAX organization in Greece through MCC. On July 24, 1965, Roger married his wife of 57 years, Judy Gongwer, and soon after, they served together through MCC in Haiti. A graduate of Madison High School, Roger studied at Hesston College and earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial management from Pittsburg State College, Kansas. He worked in construction for many years then transitioned to working as a building inspector for the city of South Bend.
In his free time, Roger enjoyed joking around with his family, volunteering at The Depot MCC Thrift Shop, participating in the Johnny Poppers John Deere tractor club, tutoring students through church and public school programs, and participating at his lifetime church, Holdeman Mennonite Church.
Surviving Roger along with his devoted wife, Judy, are two sons, Rick (Shali) Yoder, and Ben (Amanda) Yoder, grandkids Brockton Yoder, Gabriel Yoder, Kylee Yoder, Emily Knox, Will Knox, Braylon Yoder, Sam Knox, Henry Knox, Jaydon Yoder, siblings Wayne (Nancy) Yoder, Stan (Jeanette) Yoder, and Tom (Shirley) Hershberger, along with nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding Roger in death are his parents C. Maynard and Esther Yoder, brother Wendell Yoder, and sister Shirley Hershberger.
Visitation will be Friday, June 30th 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home in Goshen. Burial service will be Saturday July 1st 9:30 a.m. at Violett Cemetery in Goshen. Memorial service will be Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Holdeman Mennonite Church, 65723 CR 1, Wakarusa.
