Roger Scott “Scotty” Simmons, 79, of South Bend, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
He was born August 6, 1941 in Goshen to Gordon Lynne and Oral (Rodebaugh) Simmons.

(Shannon) Simmons of Goshen; four grandchildren, Logan Anne Simmons, Abigail Clardy, Cynthia (Erik) Heimburger and Zachary Simmons; three great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Alden and Desmond; a sister, Sally J. Simmons of Goshen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Norman, David and Jerry Simmons and a sister, Arneal Brinkerhoff.
He graduated from Goshen High School in 1959 and enlisted the US Navy shortly thereafter. He retired from the Navy on July 1, 1981 with the rank of Lieutenant, Supply Corps, USN. While in the Navy he visited ports in Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Guam, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Africa, Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Turkey. He enjoyed the many different places he saw and most of the people he met. He enrolled at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1983 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1985. He was then employed at the Boeing Company in Everett, Washington until his retirement as a Supervisor-Budgets on July 1, 1997.
Roger enjoyed opera in his retirement and frequently attended performances in Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, Vancouver, British Columbia, Chicago, Illinois, Bloomington, Indianapolis and South Bend. He also enjoyed operettas and made annual visits to the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, Ohio until his death.
Roger enjoyed most of his life, although there were some bumpy spots along the way. He also believed it was important to eat well. Roger passed away from: a massive orgasm, heart attack, stroke, old age, or something else; you decide.
I was Roger Simmons and I approved this obituary (I saw too many political advertisements last election campaign). Thanks and best wishes to my friends and relative that survived me. Good luck in the future.
