Roger M. Burger, 54, of Winona Lake, died Tuesday afternoon, April 3, 2012, in Belize following a snorkeling accident. He was born April 22, 1957, in Goshen, to Marvin J. and Martha A. (Simmons) Burger. He married Rebecca A. McCall August 25, 2001 in Goshen. Rebecca survives along with a son, Zachary Andrew Burger at home; his mother, Martha Burger of Goshen; a step-son, Chase Higgins of Warsaw; two brothers, Steven (Teresa) Burger of Goshen and Daniel (Catherine) Burger of Plainfield; and a sister, Greta (Marcus Forbes) Burger of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin J. Burger August 2, 1995. Roger graduated from Goshen High School in 1975, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1979 and later from Purdue University with a master's degree in physics. He was owner of the Electron Shop which evolved into Inventure, an electronic design and manufacturing business. He attended Warsaw Community Church and was a member of Goshen City Church of the Brethren and Goshen Noon Kiwanis Club where he was a past president. A trumpet player, Roger enjoyed reading, learning and was self taught in many areas. He loved to travel all over the world, including a visit to the Mayan ruins in Guatemala. He was concerned about the environment and was interested in sustainability. Friends may call 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 9, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. A 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012, funeral service will be conducted at Goshen City Church of the Brethren. Pastor Denny Wilson of Warsaw Community Church, and Pastor Bev Weaver of Goshen City Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial will follow in West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanis Club of Goshen Foundation for scholarships or Heifer International.
