Robert W. Ulery, 90, of Goshen, died Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2009, at Goshen General Hospital. He had been ill the past month. He was born in Goshen on March 7, 1918, to Arthur D. and Lucile (Sowers) Ulery. He married Eleanor J. Yoder on April 10, 1939. She survives at Greencroft. A 1935 graduate of Goshen High School and later International Business College, Fort Wayne, Mr. Ulery was a longtime member of First English Lutheran Church, Goshen, where he served on church council. He was a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club and had several holes in one to his credit. He was also a member of the Elks Club. He worked for Smith Alsop Paints as a bookkeeper and later as assistant manager. From the mid 1940’s to 1954, along with his parents, he operated Bagology Grocery. From 1954 to 1988 he worked as accountant/office manager/ comptroller at several local industries and as innkeeper at the Goshen Holiday Inn. After his retirement in 1988 he worked part time as an accountant and in property management until 1994. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Pamela (Daniel) Barney of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; son, Robert W. Ulery, Jr. of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Mougeotte; and a brother, Donald A. Ulery. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 3, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. A 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2009, funeral service will be conducted at First English Lutheran Church, Goshen, with Rev. Gene Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Violett Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church.
