Robert P. Phillips, 81, of Bristol, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 19, 2016 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born September 17, 1934 in Humbird, Wisconsin to Leon Sylvester and Irene Gladys (Fradenburg) Phillips.
On May 18, 1956 he married Willa Dean Gregory in Angola. She died September 11, 2013.
Survivors include a daughter, Robin Lee Schwietert of Edwardsburg, Michigan; a son, Robert E. (Sheila) Phillips of Mottville, Michigan; five grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth (Edward) Stevenson of Goshen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Danell R. Stonewall; a son-in-law, Randy Schwietert; a sister, Leona Honey and three brothers, Victor Leon, Donald Raymond and Richard Henry Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a very active member of Bristol Nazarene Church. He served as a greeter for many years, drove the church bus, operated the public address system and helped with lawn and building maintenance. He also volunteered with Harvest Basket for many years.
A longtime area resident, he worked at Johnson Controls for 22 years, retiring in 1977. He had also worked for Highway 19 Wheelhorse.
He enjoyed his grandchildren tremendously, playing euchre, feeding and watching wild birds, and before his disability, he enjoyed dancing, skate dancing, swimming and riding his 1956 Harley. He knew no enemy.
Friends may call Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 12, noon until the 3 p.m. funeral service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home.
A private burial will take place at Oakridge Cemetery, Bristol.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Nazarene Church.
