Robert T. Jefferson, 89, of Goshen, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Goshen Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born February 21, 1928 in Louisville, Kentucky to Robert T. and Henrietta (Gerstle) Jefferson.
On August 12, 1950 he married Thelma A. Koepfle in St. Bernard, Ohio. She died August 15, 1989. He later married Lucy (Clark) Weddington on September 22, 1990 in Goshen.
She survives along with two daughters, Diane M. (Timothy) Martin of Osceola, and Linda A. (Paul) Wiczynski of Columbus; a son, Alan J. (Anne) Jefferson of Round Rock, Texas; two step children, Tracy L. (Brian) Kelm and Amanda K. (Kevin) Quarandillo, both of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Ann (Donald) Saltsgaver of Clarksville; sisters-in-law, Patricia Clark of Shelburn, and Geraldine Jefferson of Louisville, Kentucky; and brothers-in-law, James Clark of Brownsburg, and Ted Clark of Chandler.
Along with his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward L. Jefferson; a sister, Mary Rose Jackson; and brothers, Richard L. Jefferson and Thomas W. Jefferson.
Robert was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He was also a graduate of Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. Following graduation he worked as a research chemist at Cummins Engine Company, Columbus and at A.B.T. Company, Middlebury, before retiring in 1993.
Bob was an author of the book “Juncture in Time”, he also planned and constructed his own clay tennis court at his home in Columbus, where he enjoyed many matches with his family and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, with a Rosary Service beginning at 4:30 p.m., led by Deacon Dave Elchert. There will also be one hour of visitation Tuesday, Oct. 17 prior to the 10 a.m. funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 114 W. Monroe St., Goshen. Rev. Father Royce Gregerson will officiate.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Bernard, Ohio.
