Robert G. “Bob” Barcus, 87, 1332 Waterford Circle, Room 321, Goshen, died on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 9:20 am, at Waterford Crossing.
Born October 22, 1937 in Monticello, to Harold E. and Marjorie I. (Dilling) Barcus. He married Mary Evelyn Shull on August 9, 1959 in Indianapolis. They were happily married for 65 years.
Bob lived in Lafayette, growing up and graduated from Lafayette Jeff High School. He was a proud graduate of Purdue University and got his master’s from Ball State University. He was involved in education for over 40 years, first as a math teacher in Wabash and in Indianapolis. Most of his working career was at Indiana State Teachers Association where he served in various roles for 37 years. He served on the board at Manchester University and was a member of the Indiana Library and Historical Board for 20 years.
Bob was a member of Northview Church of the Brethren in Indianapolis for over 50 years. He was a pillar in the church serving as worship leader, leading the children’s story, and on the church board. When he moved to Goshen, he enjoyed watching the church service via zoom.
Bob was always a sports lover. He played baseball in high school. He was a longtime fan of Purdue University’s football and basketball teams. He was also loved supporting The Indianapolis Colts, The Indianapolis Pacers, and attending The Indianapolis 500 every year. He and Mary Evelyn attended hundreds of sporting events over the years.
Bob enjoyed family vacations to Florida over the years. When he and Mary Evelyn moved to Waterford Crossing, he loved going on fun outings and doing arts and crafts. He proudly served as an ambassador for the facility.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn, Goshen; 2 daughters, Jennifer Barcus (Clayton) Snider, Goshen, and Debra (Brandon) Miller, Akron; 4 grandchildren- Ryan and Ben Snider and Allison and Greg Miller; and 1 sister-in-law Janice Shull, Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws- Arthur and Mildred Shull, his sister and brother-in-law- Phyllis & Louie Brown, and brother-in-law- Steven Shull.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 19, from 10- 11:30 am until the 11:30 am memorial service at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor John Shrock will officiate. Memorial donations can be made in lieu of flowers to the Robert G and Mary Evelyn Barcus scholarship at Manchester University or to Waterford Crossing in Goshen.
