Robert E. Taylor, 80, of Goshen, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at The Maples at Waterford Crossing where he had been the past three days.
He was born May 31, 1937 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Jerome Claude and Grace (Schmidt) Taylor.
On August 29, 1958 he married Constance “Connie” West in Cincinnati.
She survives along with two sons, Mike (Angie) Taylor of Goshen and Ken Taylor of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, Sarah Taylor, Kyle (Britney) Taylor, Zach (Kaitlyn) Taylor and Alison Taylor; five great-grandchildren; two nephews and a niece.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Terri Taylor; two brothers and a sister.
A Goshen resident since 1979, Bob worked as general manager for Dairy Farmers of America for 37 years before retiring in 1999. He worked his entire life in the dairy industry beginning at age five, pulling a wagon and selling eggs and butter for his father, JC Taylor Creamery.
A trumpet player, Bob was a charter member of Backyard Brass and a 27 year member of Lake Area Community Band.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he played his trumpet; served on the Board of Finance, the Foundation Board and was volunteer business manager.
He enjoyed woodworking, making cedar chests, rocking horses and pens. He also enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Canada.
He was a 36 year member of the Goshen Noon Kiwanis Club and a past president of the Muncie Kiwanis Club. He and his wife also volunteered for Goshen Hospital installing lifelines.
Friends may call Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m., at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and Friday, July 14, one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service at First United Methodist Church. Pastors Ed and Brenda Fritz will officiate.
Burial will follow in Violett Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the church.
