Robert C. Fields, 87, of Elkhart, died Wednesday evening, June 21, 2006, at Goshen General Hospital. He was born June 7, 1919, in Mount Hood, Oregon, to Charles and Clara (Keck) Fields. He graduated from Wolcottville High School in 1937. On February 15, 1941 he married Myrtle Pauline Christner. She died in May of 1962. He then married Laurabelle (Miller) Green on January 21, 1966. She survives in Lebanon, Missouri. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS LSM (R) 196 as a radar man. Mr. Fields worked as a machinist for L & J Press from 1950 until retirement in 1981. He was a member of the Sugar Grove Church in Goshen where he served as an Elder and a Sunday School teacher. He also served as sexton of the Sugar Grove Cemetery for many years. He is survived by a daughter, Joan (Bill) Brennan of Richmond, Texas; two sons, Paul L. (Sue) Fields of Elkhart and Carl R. (Judy) Fields of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a step-daughter, Virginia (Wade) Rowland of Wickenburg, Arizona; and a step-son, George Green of Phoenix, Arizona. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife and two sisters, Jane Haas and Louise Edwards. Friends will be received 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, June 25, at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday, June 26, at the church. A 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2006, service will be held at the Sugar Grove Church, Goshen. Rev. Roger Reece of the church will officiate. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sugar Grove Cemetery Association.
