Robert V. Beyeler

June 7, 1935 — July 28, 2025

Robert Vincent Beyeler, 90, died at The Maples at Waterford Crossing in Goshen, Indiana on July 28, 2025.

Bob was born on June 7, 1935, near Orrville, Ohio to Lester and Edna (Zimmerly) Beyeler. He was the sixth of twelve children. Bob was a member of the last class that graduated from Creston High School. He then enrolled in Goshen College; however, his pursuit of an elementary education degree was interrupted by two years of service in the Mennonite Pax program in Germany and Switzerland during which he built houses, helped at a children’s home, and repaired a school that was damaged during WWII.  During this time, he also traveled throughout Europe and to Egypt and Jerusalem. He returned to Goshen College, completed his degree in 1964, and went on to teach for 10 years at Wooster City Schools.

Bob married Julia (Rohrer) Beyeler on August 19, 1961, and they raised three children, Michael (Tonia) Beyeler, Steven (Mindy) Beyeler, Suzanne (Jason Martin) Beyeler. In 1974, he left teaching to focus on his private painting business and continued in that profession, eventually joined by his eldest son Mike, until retirement in 2019. Bob’s children and many of his nieces and nephews share fond memories of working at Beyeler Painting over the years. In addition to his professional pursuits, Bob valued service to the community as exemplified by his decade’s long participation in Ruritans, his work as coordinator of the Chicken BBQ at the Ohio Mennonite Relief Sale, and his leadership as an MYF sponsor.

Bob and Julia moved to Waterford Crossing in Goshen, Indiana in 2020. He enjoyed his time as a member of this community, especially his weekly outings with his men’s breakfast group and riding the trails on his three-wheel recumbent bike. Bob was an avid fan of the Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers.  More recently he enjoyed watching women’s basketball, especially the Indiana Fever and Caitlin Clark.

Bob is survived by his wife, his three children, two grandchildren, Chase and Kelsey Beyeler, three sisters, Eunice (Brenneman), Eloise (Hostetler), and Elaine (Hershberger), and three brothers, Ivan, Lester, and Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Esther (Gray) and Elizabeth (Jacobs), and three brothers, Glenard, Lowell, and Milton. The family will honor Bob’s life in a memorial service in The Meeting Room at Waterford Crossing Apartments, 1212 Waterford Circle, Goshen, Indiana on Sunday August 24th. A brief service will take place at 1pm, followed by food and fellowship until 3pm. A private family ceremony will be held to place Bob’s ashes in the memorial garden at College Mennonite Church, where he was a member.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee; https://mcc.org/ or College Mennonite Church; www.collegemennonite.org .

Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
