Robert A. Miller

April 17, 1964 — February 3, 2025

Goshen - Robert “Bob” Alan Miller, 60, was unexpectedly welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, on February 3, 2025, at his residence.

He was born, April 17, 1964, to Ora and Beverly (Stahley) Miller in Goshen, where he was a lifelong resident.

On July 20, 1985, Bob married the love of his life, Nora Lynn (Sibley) Miller, at Sugar Grove Church, Goshen. Bob had the softest heart, to know him was to love him. Bob would always greet you with a smile and never knew a stranger, and considered everyone to be a friend whether he knew you or not. Bob had the best laugh, and brought the brightest light to the darkest days.

Bob absolutely loved his cows, aka, his “midlife longhorn crisis”. Each of them was tame enough to eat out of his hand, an accomplishment he loved sharing with all who visited. The original “baby” of his herd whom he adored, was Annabelle. He loved taking his grandchildren to the barn or pasture to see them.

Bob loved fishing, and sharing his love for the sport with his grandchildren, although he didn’t consider fishing to be a sport, rather a time of relaxation and connection with the outdoors. Bob had the opportunity to take fishing trips to Lake Erie, and Lake Michigan.

Bob was a lifelong Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Chicago Bears fan, whom he was always rooting for, regardless of how faithfully they disappointed him.

Bob enjoyed sitting at the firepit or the top of the hill on their property to watch his cows, with his faithful Red Heeler, Reba at his side.

For 31 years, Bob and his family attended People’s Bible Church in Benton, where he served as an elder and youth leader. He also taught Bible studies and many Sunday school classes.

Along with his wife, Nora Lynn, they chaired a local 5k fundraiser for RETA, a pregnancy and family resource center in Elkhart. Bob was also a member of the Gideons International, where he was the chaplain for the Elkhart County South Camp, for 3 years.

Bob worked at View Rail in Goshen, the past two and half years, where he was the supervisor of the PIT CREW. He did not consider his colleagues employees, but friends. Prior to working at View Rail, he worked for Indiana Farm Bureau, for 4 years, where he enjoyed caring for his clients and forming close friendships with his coworkers.

A graduate of Fairfield High School in 1982, he earned his bachelor’s degree at Grace College, and continued his education at Indiana Wesleyan, receiving a master’s degree.

Bob returned to his alma mater, Fairfield High School and for 31 years taught Physical Education and weight lifting retiring in 2018. For 34 years, he coached track and football and considered each kid to be one of his own. Bob loved his school kids and led the football team to their first sectional championship in 2009. He was the all-time winningest football coach in school history with a record of 93 and 78. He had the privilege of obtaining 6 NECC conference titles. In track and field, Bob led the team to numerous conference championships and coached many state qualifying athletes, many of which went on to collegiate careers, and one who was in the olympic trials.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Nora Lynn, and their children, Ashley (Tory) Vander Wey and Angela (Gary) Brooks, both of Goshen; both of which were his entire world. Also surviving are his precious grandchildren who he adored and spoiled to the best of his ability, Brayden, Rhett, Georgia, and McCoy Vander Wey, and Lenora Brooks, all of Goshen; three siblings, Tracy Zook of Goshen, Dan (Lori) Miller of Churubusco and Dana (Karen) Miller of Goshen; and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Friday, February 7, 2025 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. at Maple City Chapel. There will also be one hour of visitation Saturday, February 8, prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service also at Maple City Chapel. Pastor John Randolph will officiate.

Burial will follow at Rock Run Cemetery.
