Richard G. “Dick” Longcor, 93, of Millersburg, died at Goshen Hospital January 15, 2024.
He was born September 20, 1930 in Goshen, IN to Guy and Gladys (Tully) Longcor.
Dick graduated from Goshen High School in 1948 and married Mary Lou Bechtel in 1950, who died in 2001. He then married Barbara (Hapner) Lantzer in 2002. Barbara died in 2023.
Richard worked at Western Rubber Company as a machinist and manufacturing engineer for 38 years until his retirement in 1985.
Richard was a man who loved and served his family, community, country and church. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in a M.A.S.H. unit in Korea during 1952-1953. He also served over 44 years as Benton Township Trustee in Elkhart County, and was an active member of the Benton Township Fire Department for 58 years. He served for many years as a Deacon of Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church and was the first President of the Fairfield High School Board when that school was consolidated in 1968. Richard also served on the local boards of many other organizations including Youth for Christ, The Red Cross and Goshen Hospital.
He is predeceased by his parents, his two wives and a stepson, Biff Lantzer. Surviving are his sons, Michael (Ann) of West Lafayette, IN, Mark (Jan) of Elkhart, IN and Marty (Ruthann) of Camby, IN, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are stepdaughter Wanda (Doug) Woodring of Millersburg, IN, stepsons Brad (Marleen) Lantzer of Millersburg, IN and Kyle (Hannah) Lantzer of Cedar Rapids, IA, nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will take place Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 2 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, and from 10 AM to 11 AM Friday preceding the 11 AM funeral at Brenneman Memorial Missionary Church.
In lieu in flowers, donations to Gideons International and the Red Cross are encouraged and appreciated.
